UNLV’s AiR hub sets guardrails for AI in US gambling 701233

In a time when artificial intelligence is reshaping entire industries, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is stepping up to lead the conversation on how AI should, and shouldn't, be used in gambling.

However, this isn't just another academic project. 

AiR Hub promises to be a cross-sector initiative that brings together researchers, regulators, operators, nonprofits, and technology firms to tly explore AI’s potential and pitfalls, from improving experiences to preventing player harm.

Speaking about the project, Kasra Ghaharian, Director of Research at IGI and co-founder of the AiR Hub had this to say;

Our vision is to create tangible progress through collaborative, actionable research with engagement across a range of stakeholders.

At the heart of the AiR Hub’s first initiatives is the release of the State of AI in Gaming Report, the first comprehensive, industry-wide survey of how gambling companies are currently deploying AI, what maturity levels they’ve reached, and what’s next.

The report is set to map both responsible and risky implementations, offering insights for companies of all sizes, from startups to established gaming giants. 

It will also lay the groundwork for AI governance frameworks and industry benchmarks.

Adjunct Fellow at the Hub, Simo Dragicevic, spoke about the potential of AI in the gambling industry;

We operate in a highly complex and integrated industry that is evolving quickly. This knowledge and experience will be essential to fully understanding the risks and capitalizing on the potential of AI within the industry.

AiR Hub’s advisory board already includes a powerhouse lineup of founding such as Playtech, Evoke Plc, Kindbridge Behavioral Health, and ROGA (Responsible Online Gaming Association). 

The group also features tech-focused contributors like Axes.ai, Gaming Analytics, and Walker Digital Table Systems, showing the initiative’s tech-forward but safety-conscious approach.

The founding member window will remain open for another six months, as AiR Hub invites additional stakeholders to shape its research direction.

Across the gambling ecosystem, AI is being increasingly used not just to personalize experiences or detect fraud, but to enhance player well-being.
